I just spent 12 hours expanding ScanToExcel to be fully accessible across all Nordic countries. Swedish, Norwegian, Finnish, and Icelandic are now live. Here's the story behind it – and where we're headed next.
Icelandic & Finnish – Why Not?
Let me be honest with you: I'm one person, and I'm Danish. That means I have to make choices about priorities. Denmark came first – that's just how it is.
Here's the ironic part: I still had to use AI to translate the site into Norwegian and Swedish – languages I actually understand. I could read them, but writing proper marketing copy? That's a different story. So I thought: if I'm using AI anyway, why stop at the languages I kind of understand?
That's how Icelandic and Finnish happened. Are they completely different from Danish? Absolutely. Finnish isn't even in the same language family. Icelandic looks like Old Norse had a baby with a keyboard. But you know what? That's exactly the point.
The New Nordic Pages
Every Nordic country now has a fully localized experience:
Full Swedish localization at scantoexcel.com/se

Each page includes localized navigation, converter pages, blog posts, FAQ, and all documentation. It's not just a translation – it's a complete experience in your native language.
Democratizing AI – The Real Mission
Here's a fact that bothers me: only about 20% of the world speaks English. That means 80% of humanity is being left behind in the AI revolution. Every time someone builds an English-only tool, they're excluding billions of people.
My mission with ScanToExcel is simple: make AI-powered OCR as cheap and accessible as possible for everyone. Not just for English speakers in wealthy countries. For everyone.
Could I have expanded to China or Portugal first? Probably would have made more business sense. But I'm Scandinavian, so I started with my neighbors. Come at me if you're not happy about it.
“Only 20% of the world speaks English. Shouldn't we share the amazing power of AI with the other 80%?”
What's Coming Next
German, French, Spanish, Portuguese, and Italian are coming very soon. After that? 30+ more languages are on the roadmap.
But don't worry – translation isn't the only thing cooking. I have some awesome features in the pipeline that I can't wait to share. This is just one piece of the puzzle.
Thanks for being here. Whether you're reading this in English, Danish, Swedish, Norwegian, Finnish, or Icelandic – you're part of this journey now.
