Frequently Asked Questions

What document types and output formats are supported?

ScanToExcel supports receipts, bank statements, invoices/bills, credit card statements, paystubs/payslips, and images of tables. Simply select the document type when uploading, and our AI will extract the relevant data fields for that specific document type - line items for receipts, transactions for bank statements, billing details for invoices, purchase history for credit card statements, earnings and deductions for paystubs, and structured data from table images. You can export your data in Excel (.xlsx), CSV, PDF, Word (.docx), JSON, or XML format, with per-file output selection for batch processing.

What input and output file formats are supported?

Input: We support common image formats (JPG, PNG, HEIC, HEIF, BMP, WebP) and PDF files. Upload receipts, bank statements, invoices, credit card statements, or images of tables.

Output/Export: Choose from Excel (.xlsx), CSV, PDF, Word (.docx), JSON, or XML format. Each document type gets optimized templates with appropriate columns and formatting.

How accurate is bank statement extraction?

Our AI is state of the art and is highly accurate at extracting transaction data, dates, amounts, debits, credits, and balances from bank statements. We handle various bank formats worldwide and can process both tabular and list-style statements. For best results, use clear, high-quality scans or photos.

Which output format should I choose?

It depends on your use case:

  • Excel (.xlsx) - Best for spreadsheet analysis, calculations, and most accounting software. Includes formatted tables and headers.
  • CSV - Ideal for importing into databases, accounting systems, or other software. Simple, universal format.
  • PDF - Perfect for creating printable reports or archival purposes with formatted layouts. Great for extracting tables from PDFs.
  • Word (.docx) - Great for creating editable reports, documentation, or professional emails. Ideal when you need to add context around extracted table data, share formatted documents with colleagues, or create client-ready reports. Also great for extracting PDF tables to Word.
  • JSON - Most detailed option for advanced users. Preserves all extracted structured data in raw form without any formatting loss. Ideal for API integration, custom processing, or when you need every field extracted by our AI. This is the best choice if you're a developer or need programmatic access to the complete data structure.
  • XML - Best for enterprise systems, ERP integration, and data interchange. Structured hierarchical format ideal for SAP, Oracle, Microsoft Dynamics, and other business systems that require XML input.

Can I convert invoices and credit card statements?

Absolutely! For invoices, we extract sender/receiver information, line items, taxes, and totals. For credit card statements, we capture all transactions, merchant names, amounts, fees, interest charges, and balance summaries. Each document type gets its own optimized output template in your chosen format.

Is there a mobile app?

The website works perfectly on mobile browsers. On mobile devices, tap "Choose files" and select "Camera" or "Take Photo" to capture receipts directly with your phone camera.

Why is there a daily limit?

The 50 conversions per day limit helps prevent abuse and keeps the service free for everyone. We want to ensure fair access while managing our infrastructure costs.

Is my data secure?

Yes! We don't permanently store your receipt images. They're processed using AI technology and then immediately discarded. See our Privacy Policy for details.

What is the document counter on your website?

The document counter shows the total number of documents processed through ScanToExcel. We track this as a simple aggregate count to show how many people trust our service. This counter is completely anonymous - we only count that a conversion happened, not what was in the document. No personal information, file names, or document content is ever stored or associated with this count.

Will there be paid plans?

We're keeping the service free for now! If we introduce premium features in the future, the basic service will remain free with the current daily limits.

What image quality do I need?

For best results, make sure your receipt is clearly visible, well-lit, and in focus. The AI can handle various lighting conditions, but clearer images produce better results.

Can I batch upload multiple documents?

Yes! You can upload multiple documents at once (up to your daily limit of 50). Select the document type and output format for each file individually, and they'll all be processed and downloaded as separate files. Mix and match document types and output formats in the same batch for maximum flexibility!
